REVELATION 21:10

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God

1. a) What does it mean by “he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain”?

b)Did the spirit of Elder John go up to the great and high mountain with the spirit of God?

c)Does God always reveal to those who are moved by the Holy Spirit to see visions in the spirit? Or will God also lift one up to His throne through His grace and by the Holy Spirit to receive revelations?

2.Does the Bible record of instances where God carry away a person to another place in the flesh and not in the spirit?

1.a) What does it mean by “he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain” ?

This verse records concerning the experience of Elder John who was carried away in the spirit to a great and high mountain. (Note: In the Chinese text of the Bible, it states that Elder John was moved by the Holy Spirit, but both the English and the original text of the Bible state that Elder John was carried away to a great and high mountain in the spirit.)

It clearly states that he carried Elder John away to a great and high mountain in the spirit to see vision. (Note: “he” refers to an angel of God and it was God’s angel who carried Elder John away to a great and high mountain in the spirit.)

1.b)Did the spirit of Elder John go up to the great and high mountain with the spirit of God?

Elder John was carried away by an angel to the great and high mountain in the spirit. Hence, Elder John’s spirit did not go up to the great and high mountain together with God’s Spirit.

1.c)Does God always reveal to those who are moved by the Holy Spirit to see visions in the spirit?

The above verse (Rev 21:10) was not the only time where Elder John saw vision in the spirit.

Revelation Chapter 4 records how Elder John saw vision in the spirit as well.

Rev 4: 1-2 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. 2And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.

In another instance, Elder John was once again carried away in the spirit where the angel carried him away by the Holy Spirit and was led by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness. Thus, Elder John was indeed carried away in the spirit into the wilderness.

Rev 17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

Even Paul also testified that he was once caught up to the third heaven.

2Cor 12:2-5 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.

The verses here record of “a man in Christ” who was caught up to the third heaven, but he could not tell whether it was in the body or out of the body. That man in Christ actually refers to Paul himself. Paul could not ascertain whether he was in the spirit or in the body when he was caught up into paradise.

2.Does the Bible record of instances where God carry away a person to another place in the flesh and not in the spirit?

Will God also lift one up to His throne through His grace and by the Holy Spirit to receive revelations?

The Bible records of many instances where God moved one in the spirit and led him to see a vision or to another place. Hence, the grace of God can surely carry away a person from one place to another physically.

For example, there was a testimony borne by a brother from East Malaysia as recorded in the old Holy Spirit Times. At that time, the brother would assemble with other believers to pray to God on a mountain as a group. On many occasions, he knew that the Holy Spirit had carried him away from the other believers during their prayers without opening his eyes based on the sound that he could hear from his surroundings. Indeed, the Holy Spirit had lifted the brother up to a safe place to receive revelations concerning the future of the church and her members (including when a particular brethren would pass away) and all those revelations were very accurate as they were fulfilled each and every time.

The Bible records how the spirit of God carried Philip away in the flesh before the eunuch so that the eunuch could no longer see Philip after both of them came out of the water.

Acts 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

Thus, God can move or carry away a person in the flesh to the place where He wants him to be, for this is the power and the authority of God.

There is record of another instance where God released the apostles who were imprisoned by His power and authority.

Acts 12:6-10 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. 7And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

The verses above record how the angel of God freed Peter from prison by His grace and authority. The chains which bound Peter fell off on its own and the iron gate which acted as the prison door opened on its own accord when Peter and God’s angel came before it. Hence, Peter was able to physically escape from prison through God’s authority. Indeed, Peter was definitely not freed in a vision.

Conclusion

We should not question how God carried away Elder John to the great and high mountain in the spirit. Rather, we should trust in God wholeheartedly as He is omnipotent and nothing is impossible with Him.
