DEUTERONOMY 18:15

Deu. 18:15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Who was the “Prophet” referred in this verse?

Deu. 18:17-18 17And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

The words “me” in Deu. 18:17 and “thee” in Deu. 18:18 refer to Moses.

Acts 3:20-22 20And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

By reading Acts 3:20-22 and Deu. 18:15, it is proven that the word “Prophet” refers to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 3:24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.

All the prophets after Moses mentioned about “these days” too, which was about the coming of this Prophet.

Acts 3:25-26 25Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. 26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

The English bible and the Hebrew bible clearly record, “Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.” Hence, the Prophet clearly refers to the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:43-45 43The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

The prophet” that was mentioned by Moses was Jesus of Nazareth. Moses said, “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me”. Moses was not referring to himself when he said, “like unto me”, but he was referring to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matt. 21:10-11 10And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

Deu. 18:18-19 18I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

The Prophet who was to come refers to the Lord Jesus Christ. As such, man should take heed of His words.

Matt. 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

This is my beloved Son” refers to the Lord Jesus Christ. God warns us that “And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.” (Deu. 18:19). Therefore, we must obey the Lord Jesus Christ’s words and believe in Him because He was the Prophet sent by God to speak in God’s name.

All glory be to the Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Amen.
