Questions And Answers-GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER

Q1. Why does not the True Jesus Church observe Good Friday and Easter unlike other churches?

The True Jesus Church does not observe Good Friday and Easter because these festivals are not in accordance with the teachings of God.

According to the teachings of the Bible, we are to remember the death of the Lord Jesus Christ by keeping the Holy Communion. We must remember that the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for the redemption of our sins when we partake of the unleavened bread and the grape juice during the Holy Communion.

1 Cor 11:23-25 23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

We do not keep the Holy Communion as an annual affair or as a form of festival.

1 Cor 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

We do this often, in remembrance of the death of the Lord Jesus Christ until He comes again.

The Bible does not contain any record that the apostolic churches had celebrated Good Friday and Easter, or any instructions for us to keep these festivals.

All these festivals, including Good Friday, Easter and Christmas, are in fact instituted by men. The Bible does not instruct us to follow the practices of the worldly people who exchange presents, indulge in festive meals or put up decorations to celebrate these festivals; for these are all commercial strategies by businessmen to gain monetary benefits.

These festivals are completely against the teachings of the Bible. The worldly people celebrate “Good Friday” for they claim that Friday was the day when the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and that He died for us. However, the Bible records that the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on the day before Preparation Day (Mark 15:25), which was a Thursday.

The worldly people also claim that “Easter” or the day that the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected, was a Sunday (Friday, Saturday and Sunday refer to 3 days and 2 nights only). The Bible records that the Lord Jesus Christ had risen and manifested Himself very early on the first day of the week (Mark 16:1-9), which was a Sunday.

Conclusion

We must not compromise our true faith in order to enjoy these sinful celebrations of pagans and worldly Christians. When we want to take part in an activity that we know is wrong, we may make excuses to justify our action, saying that it won’t hurt our faith. The teachings of these pagans or worldly Christians are heresies. Thus, we must resist Satan’s temptation and not conform to the worldly people’s practice of accepting or exchanging gifts with relatives or friends during these festivals. Rather, we should explain to our relatives and friends that the correct way to remember the death of the Lord Jesus Christ is by partaking in the Holy Communion.

We must always preach and follow the teachings and instructions of the Bible; else we will incur the wrath of God.

Rev 22:18-19 18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
