REVELATION 2:7

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God

Question 1: Who is the tree of life?

Question 2: What type of fruits can you get from the tree of life?

Question 1: Who is the tree of life?

The term “tree of life” is mentioned not only in the book of Revelation but also in the book of Genesis. In the latter book, the Lord God planted various trees bearing fruits in the east of the Garden of Eden for Adam and Eve. In the midst of the garden are the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Gen. 2:8-9 8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The fruits of the tree of life give life to men.

Gen. 3:22(l.p.) ... And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.

Rev. 22:1-2 1 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The “middle of its street” refers to the holy city, the Holy Jerusalem that descends out of heaven so that the tabernacle of the Lord God is with men.

Rev. 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

It is the water of life from the throne of God and the Lamb that nourishes the trees at both sides of the river, helping them to bear fruits every month.

The above vision was also mentioned in the book of Ezekiel.

Eze. 47:7-12 7 When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very many trees on one side and the other. 8 Then he said to me: “This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. 9 And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. 10It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. 11But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt. 12Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.”

The tree of life is not just any common fruit tree as it is nourished with the water of life. It can bear new and unique fruits throughout the twelve months of the year and its leaves can heal men. It refers to the people of God who are rewarded with the Holy Spirit and are blessed with the true wisdom and power of God.

Rev. 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Those who wear clothes that they themselves washed clean are the ones blessed by God. They are cleansed by the truth and the grace of God for they are showered with His grace to become part of the tree of life.

The Lord Jesus Christ said, “For those who are given the grace become parts of the tree of life and they can enter the city through the door." The “city” here refers to the holy city that descended out of heaven, the New Jerusalem. It is God’s church, the body of the true Spirit of God. The only way to earn the rights to own the life of God and to enter and become part of His holy city is to cleanse one’s clothes.

Rev. 21:27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

In order to become a tree of life, we must have the life of God and our names must be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Hence, the only way to enter into the holy city is to become part of the tree of life.

Heb. 12: 22-23 22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect

The firstborn recorded in heaven is the tree of life that owns the life of the Lord God.

Question 2: What type of fruits can you get from the tree of life?

Prv. 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.

What defines the righteous?

The Bible says the righteous are those who rely on the truth of God and whose actions are guided by the Holy Spirit. They hold fast to the eternal truth of God and own the life of God. They act righteously according to the truth and are the trees of life.

Ps. 1:3 He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, those leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Those who own the life of the true God and hold fast to the truth will surely be nourished by the water of life to bear fruits.

Only those who achieve victory can become the tree of life and be nourished by the water of life.

Rev. 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”

The true people of God are the blessed ones who understand the lesson of God. Hence, they are allowed to partake of the fruit of life. On the other hand, those who do not obey the teachings of God will be removed from the Book of Life even though they were formerly a tree of life written in this book.

Rev. 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

May all glory be to the Lord Jesus Christ, Hallelujah! Amen.
